Meet Dusty - the ‘Why’ Behind Shine

He’s one of the hard ones.
He screams in public. His emotions are big, unpredictable, and often overwhelming. He asks “Why?” and “And then?” at least 4,000 times an hour — and yes, he means every single one. 

Some days are noisy, repetitive, and emotionally exhausting. You never quite know what’s coming next.

But even on the hardest days — he is full of light.

And he is the reason Shine Support Services exists. 

He calls me “Taluh” because he can’t quite say Taylor. “Sweet Taluh” if he likes what I made for breafast that morning.
He dances in the kitchen to the Allman Brothers like it’s his personal concert.
His big brown eyes beam when he’s understood. He laughs from his belly. He loves without walls— specifically his family, classic cars and “ole honk.” 

He reminds me every day that people like him — the ones who take extra time, effort, and care — deserve everything we can give. Not because it’s easy. But because it’s right.

At Shine, we show up for the ones who’ve been labeled “too hard.”
 We support those who don’t fit into neat boxes.
 We believe that dignity, patience, and joy belong to everyone — no matter how challenging the journey.

My brother is a gift.
He’s my greatest teacher, and the heartbeat behind our work.

Shine was created for individuals like him — and for the families, carers, and support staff who walk alongside them with love and tenacity.

So here’s to the hard ones — the beautifully complex, joyfully wild, completely irreplaceable people who make us better just by being who they are.
